Student Support Services
Student Support Team (SST)
Student support services are available for children whose teachers think they experiencing learning and/or adjustment problems in the classroom. Records of students are reviewed to identify students with special needs or those with an existing Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Services of the Student Support Team are used to determine needs and to update the IEP as deemed necessary and appropriate.
A case management system is used to make sure that students in need of support will receive appropriate education. The team meets bi-weekly, or more often if necessary. It is led by a Case Manager. Students are identified throughout the school year and are referred to the principal and the team for review.
The team consists of:
- The principal or designee
- The Classroom Teacher
- The Special Education Teacher
- Counselor/Social Worker
- Parent(s)
A child is identified as needing student support if:
- We believe there was an IEP developed at the child’s previous school
- The child’s behavior or performance demonstrates the possible need for special attention
- A teacher expresses concern about a child’s behavior or performance
- A parent expresses a concern
